It's old drum season! A lot of our charters lately have been in search of big ole drum in the Neuse River! This time of year, drum of all sizes can be caught depending on the time of day you're out fishing. Early morning and late evening fishing in the Neuse River and near the town of Oriental typically lead us to find the really large old drum. We've had some great luck in the mornings using popping corks! Fishing with popping corks means never a dull moment. Popping corks draw attention to the bait with a clicking sound that is similar to that of shrimp, crabs or baitfish. When the cork is jerked by the rod, the bait "jumps" from the bottom and reflects the movement of fleeing bait. This is a great method to use in the Neuse River where the waters can get a bit rough and cloudy.
If you want to catch big drum, now is the time. We've still got some available dates in the month of September, so book now! Give Captain Chris a call at 252-342-0464 or click here to see our availability and book online.
We love for our parties to have a fun and active day of fishing. If we're not having good luck at our first spot, we'll pick up and head somewhere new to find the action! From the Neuse River to Cape Lookout, Shark Island to Atlantic Beach, we will go where the fish are!
Although we're closing out on the summer, fall fishing here on the Crystal Coast will be picking up soon! We'll be doing drum fishing into October as well as fishing for flounder, speckled trout, spanish and king mackerel, albacore tuna and more! If you'll be in town and want to book your half or full day trip with Mount Maker Charters, give us a call today!
