It's old drum season! A lot of our charters lately have been in search of big ole drum in the Neuse River! This time of year, drum of all sizes can be caught depending on the time of day you're out fishing. Early morning and late evening fishing in the Neuse River and near the town of Oriental typically lead us to find the really large old drum. We've had some great luck in the mornings using popping corks! Fishing with popping corks means never a dull moment. Popping corks draw attention to the bait with a clicking sound that is similar to that of shrimp, crabs or baitfish. When the cork is jerked by the rod, the bait "jumps" from the bottom and reflects the movement of fleeing bait. This is a great method to use in the Neuse River where the waters can get a bit rough and cloudy. Read More
